6 Times My Blog Was My Boyfriend

I really wanted to get this post up before Valentines, but with my work schedule jam packed this month and the overload of various heart themed posts across social media, it suited me quite well to back date it a touch so everyone could recover from the pink & red spots in their eyes and the nationwide chocolate inflicted comas.

With the day of love soon approaching (now past of course), it got me thinking about the fact that right now I don't actually have time for a boyfriend along side my hectic schedule and spin classes (who am I trying to kid, I barely make one class a week). This recent pondering did get me thinking that the one consistent relationship I've had some serious growth, love & passion towards over the years is in fact, my blog!

My blog & I first began our love affair a mere 5 years ago. It only seems like yesterday that I sat at my university desk, pondering over what I wanted him to be called, what platform would be best for him to grow & exactly what aspects of him I wanted the world to see. The prospect of being able to mend its flaws and add features to suit my forever changing style & moods is quite possibly the foundation of our solid bond, not to mention it keeps me well groomed and treats me like the ultimate lady at the best of times! Not to mention that it's great to always be right!

Love/Hate

The relationship you have with your blog is as much of a rollercoaster ride than any. Learning HTML codes for your theme and throwing your mouse across the room in frustration when one stupid symbol is in the wrong place does not make for an easy make up.

Silky Smooth

Who doesn't wanna look good for their man, I mean blog! The only reason my razor sees the light of day during Winter is so I'm pampered and ready for those all important blog pics. Prickly stubble does not look OK when you're trying to be sassy chic.

Flowers

Who doesn't love it when your blog gets you flowers with a cutesy note attached? Fresh flowers = cute flat lays. Win win!

Date Night

One of the sweeter aspects of the relationship - free food! When a collaboration or review pops up & you get to treat yourself to a 3 course meal. Thanks blog.

Writers Block

The moment after you've walked away from an argument & all those annoying points you didn't remember hit you like a ton of bricks... Well, thats what if feels like once you hit 'publish' on a blog post you spent 3 hours planning and constantly redrafting. What a load of sh*t.

Surprise Presents

Getting home to fresh parcels through the post & the contents being exactly what you wanted. Damn. Boy did good.

So here's to another 5 years of ups & downs with my lil ol' blog!

Date Night With New Look ❤︎

Valentines day. It's the one day a year when all the independent ladies are reassured of their self assertiveness that 'they don't need no man', or for many other, it's a day to show some love to your other half. The latter is usually a far cry from how I spend this day, but I hate missing out on an opportunity to eat out... Instead, I like to think I can get myself all sassed up & ready for a date night with the girls instead (yes, I'm one of those independent ladies).

This year, I've teamed up with New Look to piece together my idea of a casual date night get up, as sometimes my oversized bombers and jeans just don't make the cut for every occasion. I do like to put in a little effort, even on a 'normal' day, but finding the balance for a casual date night look can be tricky! The feeling of being overdressed or too casj is just too much to even think about!

I've accidentally gone for all black here (honestly, that was not intentional), it's a safe option all year round and quite frankly, a little red dress just isn't my thing! I start by planning my outfit with safe styles that I know will flatter my figure. Bell sleeves can sometimes be a little impractical, but damn don't they look pretty? I couldn't resit and chose this little beauty and tucked it into this oriental high waisted skirt - pretty simple, yet easy enough to dress up/down with a quick change of footwear or accessories.

No opportunity is to be missed where my love affair for faux fur jackets wouldn't make the cut into an outfit, pulling this whole ensemble together.

What are you plans this Valentines day? ❤︎

How To Boss Geek Chic

The Geek trend - I was a fresher the last time this trend made its way into my accessories pile. I believe I grabbed a bargain of eBay, buying 6 in a multi pack; who doesn't need 6 geek glasses in their life at any given time? I was in my first year of uni after all...

I do love to jump on the bandwagon and follow trends to a certain degree, I was a little scared about putting these Deirdre specs on my face & pulling it off without looking like a complete moron. I decided a long time ago to not follow trends head on all the time.... I'll be looking back on this post in 3 years time most likely thinking 'Why on Earth did you think that looked cool!?'. I like to break up trends and keep them minimalistic, to the point where I can break down the entire outfit & style it up again with the next best trend that comes around.

I'm living in anything comfy rn so my Docs & this oversized jumper go hand in hand for the style & comfort factor. I don't know about you but I love to add small touches to the outfit to give it some personality. The geek glasses aside, fishnet socks & the choker that has practically been glued to my neck for the past several months are my go to at the moment.

If I could wear everything oversized all the time without looking like a one giant piece of fabric, I'd be living the dream! But for now, I'll just stick to upping my sizes in jackets and T's to satisfy my addiction of excess fabric. I'm currently obsessing over the fact that denim jackets are back.. yaaaas to fashion on a repeat cycle! I got this faux shearling lined jacket in a UK 10 so I could still fit my baggy knitwear underneath without looking like the michelin man. I don't think I could reveart back to wearing normal fitting clothes anytime soon.

Do you have a go-to comfy, yet chic outfit you turn to?
